Character Profile

I've decided to create a character that will reside in the pages of a comic book/graphic novel, as this is where my interests lie.

What is your character based on? (Human, animal or inanimate object?)
My character will mostly be based on the physical appearance of a rat, but will stand on two legs and have human-like features such as muscle definition. It will have a rat tail and a rat-shaped skull so that it is distinguishable as a rat, but will have squirrel hands and feet so that they look exaggerated compared to the rest of the body, as well Abert squirrel ears as I think these will make an interesting feature.

What are the traits of your character?
It will have combined characteristics of rats and squirrels (resourceful, agile, intelligent, creative, adaptable, cunning) but will also behave like a human if they were in the character’s situation, for example, considering morals.

How old is your character?
Rats generally don’t live longer than three years, but as my character has human qualities it will age like a human. Ideally my character would be in it’s early twenties as that is the audience I think it would appeal to the greatest, considering readership of similar graphic novels such as ‘The Walking Dead’.

What name have you given your character?
Cole, inspired by a character from the TV show ‘True Detective’.

Has your character got a past history?
The human race stopped being able to produce offspring as men became infertile (for unknown reasons). In an attempt to stop the human race from becoming extinct, geneticists quickly began to experiment with human-animal genomes to see if male animal genes could replace that of human males. Unexpected mutation occurred and women began giving birth to human-animal hybrids, such as my character, many of which did not survive. My character is the last member of the ‘human’ race.

What role is your character going to perform?
Survivor of the wastelands that are left after the ‘event’. The character will be a scavenger for food and usable materials, and will occasionally meet others on his journey.

What is their gender?
Male.

Do they speak with any particular dialect or accent?
No.

How will you character dress?
Suede bomber/aviator jacket worn over a plaid shirt (torn, possibly with misaligned buttons, half tucked in, half untucked if wearing trousers), leather/canvas backpack, rope slung across shoulder, desert scarf so able to cover face when necessary, goggles/gas mask because of arid landscape. All items have been salvaged on his journey.

What type of environment will your character reside in?
Post-apocalyptic.
